Metazoa, is a game of evolution, where 500 million years is distilled into five minutes and participants are required to physically move and engage not only with the character their bodies are mobilizing on-screen, but also with each other as their on-screen characters interact.
Participants begin the game as protozoa and progress through seven ages and seven forms before returning back to the beginning of the evolutionary cycle. They see each of their creatures move and trigger sounds within it’s own habitat, along with other species that evolved in the same era. During the later stages participants collaborate to fit together an onscreen jigsaw puzzle which then propels them into the next environment, thus mimicing the cataclysmic events which initiate ecological shifts.
Metazoa is an educational art and technology experience, which explores diversity and participation with all life forms. Where Dr. Who meets Darwin to create a hybrid experience of the real together with the imaginary. It is a playful and social adaptation experience, which reflects on the digital age in which we live.
” Metazoa weaves the mythical with the everyday in a tangible experience. It is an experiment, which seeks to create a hybrid experience of the ‘real self’ in collaboration with an ‘other’ mirror entity. ” Angela Main
